5 Dental Situations Implant-Supported Dentures Can Help

If you've not kept up with your dental care, you may have several bad or missing teeth. A full set of teeth is important as you get older so you're able to eat a wide variety of foods and maintain a healthy diet.

If you're ready to improve the health and function of your mouth, consult with a dentist and learn about treatment options. Implant-supported dentures might be the right choice. Here are five instances when implant-supported dentures are helpful.

1. When Your Dentures Give You Problems

If you already wear dentures, switching to implant-supported dentures could make a difference. Traditional dentures are prone to slipping when you chew or speak. If you're tired of putting up with loose dentures, talk to your dentist about getting implants.

Implant-supported dentures are secured to your bone, so they won't slip or fall out. This gives you comfort and confidence when eating, laughing, and speaking. The worry over your dentures popping up will be over and your dentures will act more like natural teeth.

2. When You Have Several Bad Teeth

If you've lost several teeth due to decay, your dentist may recommend pulling the teeth and replacing them with dentures supported on implants. Your dentist may try to save healthy teeth, but if most of your teeth are bad, dentures could be the right choice.

3. When Missing Teeth Make You Look Older

If you've lost most or all of your teeth due to gum disease or decay, you may feel embarrassed about your appearance. When your teeth are missing, your face sinks in around your mouth and makes you look older. Plus, you may feel too self-conscious to laugh or smile.

Your missing teeth can be restored with implants. If several teeth are missing, your dentist might recommend implant-supported dentures so you get all new teeth to replace your missing and unhealthy teeth. The full set of teeth lifts your face and skin around your mouth so you have a more youthful appearance.

4. When Your Teeth Are Loose or Shifting

When you lose a tooth, the other teeth in your mouth may slowly shift toward the open gap. If your teeth become crooked or loose, your dentist might recommend getting implant-supported dentures. These dentures might also be a good option if your teeth are loose due to gum disease.

Gum disease must be treated, but the best option for treating your loose teeth might be to pull them and get dentures. Your dentist may try to save your teeth, but if that's not possible, replacing them with dentures and holding the dentures securely with implants might be the best option for your oral health.

5. When You Have Gum Infections

Gum disease is one of the leading reasons to get dentures. When you have advanced gum disease, your teeth have infection around the roots. This is what causes your gums to pull away and your teeth to get loose and eventually fall out. The infections in your gums or cavities could cause you to have frequent abscesses. Removing your teeth and treating the infections could be the recommended treatment for advanced gum infections.

Some cases of gum disease can be reversed and your teeth can be saved. When that's not possible, dentures are a solution to consider. When you get dentures, choosing those supported with implants may give you the results you'll be happier with since they are more like natural teeth than dentures that are not supported.
