Meet Our Doctor

Tyler Alderman – Mt. Pleasant, SC – Smiles by Hogan

Tyler Alderman, Doctor of Dental Surgery

Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia he earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Marshall University. He then went on to attend West Virginia University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery with outstanding achievements in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He is extremely patient-based with particular expertise in surgical & restorative dentistry. His passion for surgical and implant dentistry has led him to achieve notable proficiency in full mouth reconstruction including extraction, grafting, and implant placement. Dr. Alderman has used his unique skill set to mentor other fellow Doctors who are interested in implant dentistry. He has spoken at the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and hosts Implant courses for eager dentists on a local level as well as in his hometown in order to educate & assist fellow doctors on surgical & implant dentistry including complex procedures. Outside of Mt. Pleasant Modern Dentistry, Dr. Alderman also travels quarterly to work alongside a group of dental surgeons providing complex surgical procedures to patients in a highly underserved area.
 

Beyond Dr. Alderman's surgical education & experience, he longs to connect with his patients. Dr. Alderman is passionate about helping others feel a greater sense of well-being and radiating confidence through oral health. His personal goal is to establish close rapport with each and every patient by providing a strong level of communication and empathy. He approaches each case with comfort, care & assurance throughout the entire process.


He is married to his wife, Brooklyn, and together they have two energetic young boys and an adorable and spunky little girl. Outside of patient care, Dr. Alderman spends most of his time enjoying the outdoors with his family enjoying the beauty of the lowcountry and entertaining with friends.

  • What services do you provide? Do you see children?

    We provide routine preventative care  such as periodic exams, dental cleanings, periodontal cleanings, and diagnostic x-rays for all ages. We love to see families & children!   • I hate the dentist. How can I be sure to have a good experience?

    There are many reasons why patients don't enjoy the dentist, understandably so!  It is our goal to provide an exceptional experience to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout your process. Dr. Alderman takes time to work with you to overcome your dental fears. We take the time to get to know each patient on a personal level and cater to whatever it may be that leads them to fear being in the dental chair. Dr. Alderman spends a great deal of time providing education and options for treatment. We want our patients to  have a clear understanding, in order to make the most appropriate decision regarding their dental care.

  • Is there anything that will help with my dental anxiety?

    Dental fear is very common. Fear can often prevent patients from recieving much needed dental treatment, for this reason we are happy to offer oral conscious sedation. We will dispense a combination of oral sedatives to keep you nice & relaxed. This is a simple & safe process that involves administering medication to help you get a good nights rest the night prior to your pocedure followed by medication to take 1 hour prior to the procedure. Oral Sedation makes you quite groggy, and you may fall asleep. You will still be able to communicate if necessary, and you'll awake with a gentle nudge. Oral Sedation will temporarily affect your memory and motor skills.

  • Does Your Office Use Lasers?

    Yes. Many kinds of lasers are used in today’s dentistry, and we use several of them! Most commonly, we use a soft tissue laser for several gum treatments, including gum grafts, crown lengthening, and to treat gum disease. When using a laser, typically we do not need stitches to close incisions, and bleeding is minimal – making for far less invasive procedures. 

    Dr. Alderman also uses Laser therapy for patients who suffer from Cold Sores and chronic Ulsurs as well as Tissue Biopsy and Treatment of Pre-Cancerous Lesions.
